The Indian Postal and Telecommunications Accounting and Finance Service (IP & TAFS) is a civil service in India or a competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India.

The exam is conducted for the recruitment of the Department of Telecommunications and the Department of Posts in India.

The Indian Postal & Telecommunications Accounting and Finance Service is a group “A” Central Civil Service of the Union of India.

➼ Exam Pattern

The pattern of Civil Services Examination is intended to test a candidate’s academic expertise and that applicant’s ability to introduce himself/herself in a methodical and steady manner.

The exam pattern is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and level of understanding of the candidates.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020 is conducted in two phases, Prelims and Mains, which are then followed by an interview.

➼ Prelims Exam Pattern

  • Prelims papers consist of 200 marks each.
  • Both the question papers are objective type (multiple choice questions) of each hour.
  • Question papers language option will both Hindi and English. However, questions related to English language comprehension skills will be provided in English only.
  • Additional time of 20 minutes will be allotted to the blind candidates.

➼ Main Exam Syllabus

The Commission will release the list of selected candidates for the Civil Services Main Examination on the basis of merit and reservation. The total number of vacancies will be listed approximately 12-13 times to take the main examination. Candidates should understand that the main examination is an important stage in the IAS selection process. This stage tests candidates on various subjects. The main examination consists of nine traditional (descriptive) papers, two of which are qualifying.

➼ Prelims Exam Syllabus

UPSC conducts Civil Services Examination (CSE) to shortlist candidates for various posts like IAS, IPS and IFS. The preliminary examination is the first round of the selection process. Candidates should appear for two General Studies papers of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination. They should note that General Studies Paper-II is also known as Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks, which is set at 33%.

➼ IP&TAFS Eligibility Criteria

1) Age Limit

The age of a candidate should be minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years by August 01, 2020. But she has not been born before August 02, 1988 nor since August 01, 1999. Necessary action will be taken. To make similar changes in the relevant rules / regulations related to various services.

The above prescribed upper age limit is comfortable for the following candidates:

  • 5 years – SC / ST (SC / ST)
  • 3 years – Other Backward Classes (OBC)
  • 3 years – Defense Services personnel
  • 5 years – Ex-servicemen comprising commissioned officers and ECOs / SSCOs who have rendered a minimum
  • 5 years of military service till August 01, 2020.
  • 5 years in case of ECO / SSCO
  • 10 years – blind, deaf-mute, and orthopedically handicapped
  • 5 years – In the case of ECOs / SSCOs who have completed the initial period of five years of military service by 1 August 2019 and whose assignments have been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defense issues a certificate Those citizens can apply for employment and will be released on three months notice upon selection from the date of receipt of the offer of appointment.

2) Education Qualification

  • Candidate must contain a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university.
  • Candidates who have performed for the qualifying examination and are expecting the result or who have not yet appeared for the qualifying examination are also eligible for the preliminary examination. Such
  • Candidates will have to provide proof of passing the said examination along with the application for the main examination.
  • Candidates with government or its equivalent recognized professional and technical qualifications are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have passed MBBS or in the final year of any medical examination but have yet to appear for the main examination to complete an internship. However, they must present a certificate from the university concerned that they have passed the final professional medical examination.

3) Nationality

  • Candidate should be a citizen of India
  • Candidate must be a citizen of Nepal or be a subject of Bhutan
  • The candidate must be a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to be permanently settled in India
  • The candidate must be a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Zaire or Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in India.

➼ IP&TAFS Interview

The interview is one of the most important parts of the IP&TAFS exam. It’s very necessary for you to clearly state your thoughts to the interviewers.

As a result, you need to focus on brightening your communication skills and body language. Some candidates are blessed with such skills.

Some require practice to become excellent communicators of their ideas. Candidates with no communication skills can contact those who have already appeared in the Civil Services Examinations, to get useful suggestions from them.

Because this portion of the Civil Services Examination is not designed to judge someone’s expertise on a subject.

However, a candidate must speak from the heart or answer all questions honestly.

There is a common misconception among the candidates that if they lie about their hobby just to get through the interview, it will never help them.

Interviewers are not just to ask questions, but to evaluate a candidate’s personality and ability to evaluate whether a ‘no’ is a ‘no’, it cannot be changed to a ‘yes’ and vice versa.

➼ How to apply for IP&TAFS

  1. Candidates have to apply online on the website www.upsconline.nic.in
  2. Applicants are advised to submit only one application.
  3. In some certain situations, if more than one application got submitted, the candidate has to ensure that the application with high RID (Registration ID) is complete in all respects.
  4. Candidates already in government departments, government-owned industrial undertakings or other similar organizations or private employment can submit their applications directly to the Commission.
  5. Candidates already in government service, whether as permanent or temporary capacity or as casual or daily rated employees or employees working under public undertakings, are, however, required to submit an undertaking Which he has informed in his written office / Head of Department which he has applied for the examination.
  6. Candidates should note that due to the Commission not allowing the candidates to apply/appear in the examination, a communication is received from their application, their application will be rejected / candidature will be liable to be cancelled.
